ERA-2SM+ Wideband MMIC and ADCH-80A+ Wideband Choke for the 2.5GHz Frequency Counter These two parts from Mini-Circuits are used in the high-frequency input circuitry for the 2.5GHz High-Resolution Frequency Counter. When this project was published, there was no local distributor. They are now available from Clarke & Severne at the following URLs: http://www.cseonline.com.au/ERA-2SM-DC-6GHz-3.4V-16.4dB-Gain.html http://www.cseonline.com.au/ADCH-80A-RF-Choke-50-10-000-MHz.html If you're buying these parts for the 6GHz+ Touchscreen Frequency Counter (October 2016), you need to purchase two sets of this item. We are continuing to supply them for the convenience of customers who are already purchasing PCBs and/or the programmed microcontroller.

DS3231-based Real Time Clock & Calendar module with mounting hardware A DS3231-based RTCC module with onboard I²C pull-up resistors and pin header interface. Included in the pack are two 10mm M2 Nylon tapped spacers and four 6mm M2 Nylon machine screws for mounting. Note 1: no cell is supplied with the module. It is designed to use a rechargeable cell. You can use a CR2032 (or similar) Lithium button cell but in this case you MUST remove the SMD diode to prevent the battery from being charged. See the Super Clock article in the July 2016 issue for more details. Note 2: as this module has onboard pull-up resistors for the I²C bus, you may need to remove them, or avoid fitting pull-up resistors on the master, for it to share a bus with other peripherals.

Dual gang 50kΩ 16mm logarithmic taper potentiometer with spline tooth shaft This potentiometer can be used in the Stereo Valve Preamplifier. This value is hard to get in this style of pot but it suits driving devices with a relatively high load impedance. Note that because it has a spline shaft, not all types of knob will necessarily fit. The types with a grub screw generally work OK, or those designed for spline shafts. Also the shaft is quite short, which means you won't have to cut it down but it will not protrude a long way through a thick panel either.

STGIPS30C60 30A IGBT bridge & 15mΩ shunt for the 1.5kW Induction Motor Speed Controller These parts can be used to build, upgrade or repair the 1.5kW Induction Motor Speed Controller. The main part is the STGIPS30C60 hybrid three-phase IGBT bridge module. The originally specified part is the STGIPS20K60 and this is rated for 18A continuous current and 40A peak. By comparison, the pin-compatible STGIPS30C60 is rated at 30A continuous, 60A peak. So this should make the speed controller more rugged and better able to withstand overload before the protection circuitry kicks in. We're also supplying the 15mΩ 6332 (2512) SMD shunt, rated at 3W. Note that if you want to use these parts to repair a damaged controller, chances are that IC2 (LM319; Jaycar ZL3319, Altronics Z2520) will almost certainly need replacing. It's also possible that some or all of the high-speed opto-couplers (OPTO1, 4N35 & OPTO2-3, HCPL2531) could be damaged so check them too.

RF Coil Former with Adjustable Ferrite Core A coil former with ferrite slug. Can be used for the Planet Jupiter Receiver (three formers required). This is similar to SBK-71K but without the shield can. The Jaycar LF1227 set originally specified is no longer available. There are a few differences so some slight modifications need to be made in order to fit the new coil former on the PCB: 1) This former has five pins rather than two. The extra pins can be cut off or, where they will fit into an existing PCB mounting hole, used as tap connection points. 2) This former is slightly smaller so you will need to use 0.25mm diameter ECW rather than the 0.3mm diameter specified in the SiDRADIO parts list. The number of turns remains the same. 3) You may need to bend the pins slightly to fit them into the PCB mounting pads.

Small 4A boost step-up regulator module (XL6009) A 40x21mm module which uses the XL6009 (LM2577 equivalent) boost regulator IC. Input is 3.2-32V, output is 4-38V at up to 4A continuous. Efficiency up to 96%, switching frequency 400kHz. Output voltage is adjusted using a multi-turn trimpot. The input and output DC connections are made via pads in the corner of the PCB. Note that as with a typical boost regulator, the output voltage can not be lower than the input voltage.

ADS1115-based 16-bit I²C ADC module with programmable gain amplifier A small module with an ADS1115 16-bit ADC, allowing you to read the voltage level at one of four analog inputs using the I²C digital interface. Runs off a 2-5V supply and samples up to 860 times per second. The on-board voltage reference and PGA allow input ranges from ±256mV to ±6.144V. For more information, see www.ti.com/product/ADS1115

7A DC/DC Boost Converter module A small module (67 x 48 x 28mm) which can convert an input voltage of 8.5-50V DC to a higher output voltage of 10-60V DC at up to 7A. Maximum efficiency is stated as 96%. Peak output current is 12A and peak input current is 15A but the unit will overheat if operated at those levels continuously. The board has two 2-way terminal blocks for the input and output and two multi-turn trimpots to adjust the output voltage and current limit.

TP5000-based 2A LiFePO4 cell charger module A small (26 x 18mm) module capable of charging a single LiFePO4 or Li-ion/LiPo cell from a 4.5-9V DC supply. It's supplied with a red/green LED which indicates the charger status and has a small heatsink glued to the underside to help with heat dissipation. By default, the module is set up for charging LiFePO4, with a 3.6V charge termination voltage. If you short the pair of empty pads near the BAT+ terminal then it will charge up to 4.2V, suitable for Li-ion and LiPo cells. If fitting the supplied LED, the flat side of the lens goes towards the component labelled R1.

7A DC/DC Buck (Step-down) Converter module A small module (65 x 48 x 24mm) which can convert an input voltage of 5-40V DC to a lower output voltage of 1.25-35V DC at up to 7A. Maximum efficiency is over 90%. The peak output current is 9A. Note that forced air (fan) cooling is necessary for continuous operation at high currents (more than a few amps). The board has two 2-way terminal blocks for the input and output and two multi-turn trimpots to adjust the output voltage and current limit.

Small 3.5A step-down regulator module (XL4005, LM2596-based) A 43x21mm module which uses the LM2596 buck regulator IC and a toroidal inductor. Input is 4-38V, output is 1.25-32V at up to 3.5A continuous (or 4.5A with forced air cooling). Efficiency up to 96%, typically >90%. Output voltage is adjusted using a multi-turn trimpot. The input and output DC connections are made via pads in the corner of the PCB. Note that as with a typical buck regulator, the output voltage must be at least a couple of volts lower than the input voltage for proper regulation.
