On yer bike!
Welcome to the September issue of PE. There are very few things
to recommend a pandemic, but one positive trend has been the
rise in cycling as people avoid public transport. Bicycle sales in
the UK have shot up, and although currently the days are long and
the nights short, a great bike light is still a must-have accessory.
(Actually, it’s the law after dark, and rightly so.) If you want
something with a bit more optical oomph then we have just the
project for you: our Ultrabrite LED Light.

It’s not over yet, but…
I’m sure there is still a long way to go before we can declare any
kind of victory over the current pandemic, but little by little some
aspects of life are returning to normality.

Projects and circuits
All reasonable precautions are taken to ensure that the advice and
data given to readers is reliable. We cannot, however, guarantee
it and we cannot accept legal responsibility for it.
A number of projects and circuits published in Practical Electronics
employ voltages that can be lethal. You should not build, test,
modify or renovate any item of mains-powered equipment unless
you fully understand the safety aspects involved and you use an
RCD (GFCI) adaptor.
Component supplies
We do not supply electronic components or kits for building the
projects featured, these can be supplied by advertisers. We
advise readers to check that all parts are still available before
commencing any project in a back-dated issue.
Advertisements
Although the proprietors and staff of Practical Electronics take
reasonable precautions to protect the interests of readers by
ensuring as ar as ractica le that advertise ents are ona fide
the magazine and its publishers cannot give any undertakings
in respect of statements or claims made by advertisers, whether
these advertisements are printed as part of the magazine, or in
inserts. The Publishers regret that under no circumstances will
the magazine accept liability for non-receipt of goods ordered, or
for late delivery, or for faults in manufacture.
Transmitters/bugs/telephone equipment
In the UK, most retailers that sell Practical Electronics are now
open and stocking your favourite magazine. However, if your
newsagent of choice is not yet open, or you simply prefer to
socially isolate for now, then don’t forget you can buy PE online
from us for exactly the same price (£4.99, postage included).
For our overseas readers, delivery is still frustratingly slow, but it
is speeding up and the great news for our North American friends
is that we are now resuming shipments to US and Canadian
stores. So, Barnes & Noble and other retailers will soon be
stocking PE again
Back issue downloads
It’s always a slightly nerve-wracking time when a new product
is launched on the shop, but I am pleased to report that our new
downloads service has worked well and many of you have taken
advantage of the new low prices, especially for the older issues.
CDs are still available, but the downloads are immediate, cheaper
and more secure. A big thank you to Alan Winstanley and Kris
Thain who are the behind-the-scenes wizards making the website
run smoothly.
Do remember that the downloads service is not just for back issues
– we also sell the latest version for immediate download.
Summer Sale
Last, a reminder that our summer sale is in full swing. If you
fancy a nice summer project, then do please see the ad on page
3 outlining the details, and then head over to the online store for
some PCB bargains!
Keep well everyone
