Welcome to the Audio Out Shop
We are introducing a new and very useful reader resource on
page 43 of this month’s Practical Electronics. Meet the brandnew ‘Audio Out Shop’. It does exactly what it says on the
tin – it’s a shop for those of you who enjoy audio electronics
and esoteric analogue design. It’s entirely run by Audio Out
columnist Jake Rothman, who is drawing on his vast collection
of rare, unusual, hard-to-find and just plain useful parts.
Whether it’s components for Theremins and preamplifiers, or
his recent take on the Ladybird Radio, you can find all the parts
you need to complete Jake’s designs from his strictly analogue
electronic emporium. His advert is not an exhaustive list, just
an edited highlights of parts most likely to be useful to PE
readers – for example, the germanium transistors or audio-grade
capacitors regularly referenced in his articles. What’s more, if
you can’t find something for your own design or restoration
project then drop him a line or give him a call, he may well
have just what you’re looking for. If he doesn’t have it then he
can probably suggest an alternative part or know who else might
stock your elusive component.

Do remember that small-scale niche sellers who advertise in
PE have had a pretty tough time of it recently – haven’t we
all? It’s so easy to just click a mouse and buy everything from
eBay and Amazon, but it’s not always the best, cheapest or
quickest way to buy parts. If you get a chance to support any
of our advertisers – Quasar, Cricklewood, JPG or ESR – then
you’re not just helping a real shop, but keeping alive the group
of increasingly rare vendors dedicated to supporting our hobby
with proper old-fashioned service and real knowledge of parts
and components.
